NELSPRUIT. The Afrikaans couple were attacked at their smallholding in
Nelspruit on Tuesday-evening June 19 2012 and brutally assaulted. Three
armed black males showed up at 18h00 at the Renosterkop smallholding,
first attacking and tying up the gardener to gain them access to the
homestead. They first held the couple at gunpoint - and then they were
brutallly assaulted. While it's not known whether the unborn twins
survived the electric-shocks, the Pelser couple survived only because
the shotgun which the attackers wanted to shot them dead with, failed to
fire. SAPS spokesman Gerald Sedib of the Mpumalanga SAPS said the
gardener rescued the couple: he managed to losen his bonds and alerted
the neighbour. He rushed in with a gun and fired warning-shots - the men
fled into the bush. They only 'stole' the couple's car-keys. It's thus
far only listed as an attempted house-robbery in the SAPS
crime-records. Sergeant Sedibe said the 'couple are in a serious
condition in hospital'. Nobody was arrested.

neighbours tried to douse the fire with garden hoses: June 7 2012 –
Mrs Efie Botha had rushed home from work and neighbours had to stop her
from storming into their burning Nina Park, Pretoria home to rescue her
husband from the raging fire. The home – as do most South African homes
– was heavily fortified with security gates and burglar-bars, and
people increasingly are burning to death because they cannot escape from
fires in time. The Pretoria fire department spokesman Willie Dry said
they don’t know the cause of the fire. Family members had to stop the
wife, who was weeping hysterically. The husband was found burned to
death inside the bathroom. The family cat also died in the fire.
Neighbours tried to put out the fire with garden hoses until the fire
department showed up, to no avail. Apparently the fire started in a
trailer next to the house. Neighbours said they called the well-liked Mr
Botha ‘Shakes’ because he always shook his body when he went jogging.
An inquest will determine the circumstances of the death.

of their victims died from the brutal treatment. This testimony will be
