Molly de Lange 80 survives attack, attempt to smother her to death

Molly de Lange 80 attacked 7 January Florida home: nearly smothered to death 11 January 2013 Amoryn Golden - Roodepoort News: Molly de Lange (80) believed the last moments of her life had arrived when she was attacked in broad daylight on 7 January in her Florida home. Two black men who pretended to deliver a parcel - one wearing medical gloves - walked into her home, tied her up, covered her eyes with a blindfold and demanded "gold, diamonds, money'. Mrs De Lange said she was following her usualy routine: turning on her coffee machine and unlocking the back door. Within the next few minutes her life changed drastically. "I was walking to my room when I heard a voice at the door and when I looked around an unknown man was standing there. He was wearing medical gloves,' she said. "This parcel is for you,' he said. She did not expect a parcel and immediately said she 'didn't want anything'. 'He was determined to get me closer and claimed my daughter had sent the parcel to my address.' She was still walking to the phone to contact her daughter when she was pushed to the ground. "Within minutes my hands and feet were tied together and my eyes covered up by a blindfold.' One man picked her up by her feet, another by her hands, put her down on the bed, rolled her up into a sheet and started plundering the house. "Where is the gold, where are the diamonds and weapons,' she said they repeatedly kept on asking her. "When I kept on explaining that I did not have anything of value nor weapons, they took R150 from my wallet. Mrs De Lange has suffered for years from rheumoid-arthritis and she was helpless while tied up and blindfolded, rolled up in a bedsheet on her bed. "After a while things got quiet, and then I felt myself dumped to the ground and the mattress was thrown over me. I knew they were trying to smother me to death.' She said she found the strength to losen her bonds and moved the mattress from her body and crawl to the telephone after the attackers left her home. She was lying on the front door's mat waiting for her family to come and help her. Mrs De Lange said she felt happy that she survived. She also warned other elderly people not to have a daily routine, 'because you may be watched.' She also said that her experience shows once again that 'children should be looking after their elderly parents' safety wherever they can'.

SA artist Richard Rennie 80, cut in face and beaten by black man, Clarens, FS home
Volksblad journalist Pieter Steyn reports that the well-known water-colourist was attacked New Year’s eve, allegedly by his black gardener in Clarens. Quoted was a friend of Rennie’s Johan Lehman, who said a security guard on duty near Rennie’s home heard the artist’s screams, caught the gardener in the act of assaulting the artist with a broken glass bottle, tied the man up and called police. Rennie is much sought-after for his water-colour paintings, according to the Art Company, and is exhibited by top companies such as Barloworld and Anglo American’s collections. He is known as an amiable man who wouldn’t harm a fly, said Lehman. Apparently the gardener borrowed money from Mr Rennie earlier in the day. The reason for the brutal assault is not known. He’s cared for in the intensive care unit of Mediclinci Hoogland at Bethlehem, having incurred broken ribs, and ‘serious cuts and bruises to his face’. SAPS sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the gardener – unnamed until he’s asked to plead, was remanded in custody in the local magistrate’s court and is investigated for charges ‘with assault with the intent to commit serious injury’. (not attempted murder).

probably paralysed for life: Heroic 16-year-old #Afrikaner teen #LudayVdMerwe took bullet in spine shielding friend Deidre Strydom from black male gunmen:

Heroic Afrikaner teen Luday van der Merwe 16, who took the bullet and saved friend Deidre Strydom from gunmen, is probably paralysed from his upper-body on down: grandmother.
Orphaned Afrikaner teen Luday van der Merwe, 16, of Brits was still critical condition at a GaRankuwa public hospital with doctors unable to remove a bullet fired into his spine on New Year's eve 2013, writes Beeld journalist Hanti Otto on January 4 2013.
The condition of the impoverished Elandsrand, Brits teenager Luday van der Merwe is not improving, she writes. He was shot late on New Year's Eve at the smallholding where the orphaned teen lives with his grandmother Jenny Wallis. She said he is tiring much quicker than before and now can only speak in a whisper. The bullet is still lodged in his spine and apparently cannot be removed, she said. "He's becoming more feverish and two drains have been placed in his lungs. He cannot feel anything from his waist down,' she said.
He even hurts when she gently cleans his chest with a washcloth. "But I remain positive. We will get through this,' she said. The youth turned 16 on January 3 2013. Family and friends were allowed to visit him in the Ga-Rankuwa hospital where he was rushed after he and two friends were attacked by three black male gunmen late New Year's eve. When the gang stormed into the smallholders’ cottage with their guns blazing, Luday pushed his friend Deidré Strydom 19 out of harm's way when one of the men targetted her with his gun. The bullet was fired into his spine after penetrating his lungs. Medical indications are that the youth probably will be paralysed from his upperbody on down. He's being cared for by his grandmother after his mother died of cancer last year. SAPS capt Aafje Botma of North West police said they are searching for three attackers but thus far noone was arrested.
