That is the experience of mr Blignaut of Brackenfell, outside Cape Town. First he was attacked by a man in his own backyard and had to fight the man off who then jumped the wall and fled the scene.
Then a couple of days later, he was again attacked by the same man who this time brought a friend along.
Mr Blignaut was stabbed several times and had to undergo an emergency operation on the cuts in his arms.
He had to fight his way back into the house and slammed the security gate shut - while the two black attackers still tried to rip the gate off.
When they eventually left the scene - which was still blood spattered from the previous attack - one of them referred to him as "white trash".
His family is now petrified of being alone in their own backyard.
